How do you pronounce your name? Is it short for something?
My name is pronounced Ah-stee, not Ass-tea. A couple of years ago I created a five-minute ramble about my name since it’s such a popular topic: It’s not Ass-tea, if you want to know more. It is not short for anything, no.

Is the website atypical narrative or a typical narrative?
That is up for you to decide! Part of the reason I chose the name atypicalnarrative (and type it without any spaces) is because of its ability to be read both ways.

Do you follow a blog schedule?
Not always. From the beginning the aim was to post twice a week, but that has changed based on a variety of variables. The current schedule I aim for is:

  • Tuesdays: Stories
  • Thursdays: Art
  • Saturday: Life

The best way to make sure you don’t miss a post when it goes live is by signing up for email notifications.

What do you illustrate with?
Prior to June 2017, most of the illustrations featured on atypicalnarrative were created with basic #2 HB pencils and Pilot G-2 07 gel pens.

My current traditional supplies consist of Prismacolor Col-Erase pencils, Pigma Micron pens, Winsor & Newton Promarkers, and Copic sketchbooks. Digital supplies (as of April 2018) include the iPad Pro, Apple Pencil, and Procreate.

What type of TV shows do you like to watch?
I’m open to anything, but my favorites tend to be reality competitions (The Challenge, Ru Paul’s Drag Race, Survivor), dark comedies (Shameless, OITNB, Fargo), and crime dramas (Sherlock, Breaking Bad, The Peaky Blinders). You can keep track of what I’m watching by checking out my Trak.tv profile.

What type of books do you like to read?
I primarily read Young Adult books of the fantasy and sci-fi variety (Chaos Walking series, The Lotus Wars series, All Our Yesterdays). Over the last couple of years I’ve also started reading (and loving) comics and graphic novels (Nimona, Saga, Through the Woods). You can keep track of what I’m reading by checking out my Goodreads profile.
